hy would anyone go out into the hills looking for gold? Here's  why. Thus chunk weighs twelve point seven penny and probably contains roughly 70% gold. If the rock were removed, it could be one big interconnected piece of gold. She's the kind of specimen that gives a detector strep throat. An amazing piece of the Mother Lode for display or perhaps a wire-wrapped pendant. My source says it's from the central Sierra Nevada Mtns.
Some oxidation stain shows on the surface while the rock itself grades from white to pinkish. By the way, there are twenty pennyweight to an ounce.
I don't sell low grade gold ores. I sell authentic, naturally-occurring gold quartz ores with visible gold. These high-grade beauties are hard to find and expensive to obtain. My prices are not based upon the amount of gold contained, but upon the authenticity, rarity and collectibility of these unique specimens.

I poured through old mining dumps for years looking at orange-yellow-rusty rock through a loupe, but I never found a piece with visible gold.
Hydrothermal solutions carrying gold and silica crystallized into veins of gold quartz. This specimen comes from one of the many gold-bearing vein systems filling the State of California.

    STORIES FROM THE GOLDFIELDS
    M
ost days a prospector goes out, he winds up dog-tired, hungry, and usually disappointed. Maybe you'll begin to work your way into better physical shape eventually, but in the meantime, expect to take a beating. Maybe you're one of those types who thrives on hard work. If that's the case, you've found your profession.
The fact is, with prospecting, a guy can't always load up his ATV or jeep with provisions and cruise down to the claim for a leisurely day of digging up tons of gold.
Having been a gold digger for eighteen years, there's no way to count how many times I've been frustrated - driven to the brink of total exhaustion. You'll freeze one season and melt into a puddle of sweat the next.
Most people who leave something else, like another vocation, to pursue gold won't be sorry, however. They'll become stronger, more self-sufficient; maybe even come out at Season's End with something to rattle around in their poke. I knew peace and contentment
working for myself every day in the wide open spaces even when that space was underwater. I
n choosing to become a gold prospector, I imposed my will on this life and that lifestyle fit like a glove (or a wetsuit). There's no feeling in the world like the one you get when you find gold in
places where no one else thought to look before.   credit - G. Ralph
