Description

Visor Cap of a
Postman or Postal Service Official, Imperial Germany
,
circa late XIX C. – early XX C.
The hat and all of its parts are GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL of WW1 or pre-WW1era – this is NOT a recent replica!
Small size, about European 56 (approximate US size 6 ¾ ). The hat is in GOOD collectible condition for an antique item of this kind. There is a single moth hole to the top of the crown near the front and some areas of discoloration throughout the crown visible in our photos, there are also a few moth holes to the wool band. Nevertheless the hat still looks very presentable and will display nicely, especially if put on a Styrofoam head. The visor is sound and has kept its shape very well, without much warping. The orange stripes of the band are still bright, not too faded.
Original cockade is included. Note that unlike something that was recently added to the hat – what we often see on modern fakes – the cockade has the correct look for something that has been attached to the hat undisturbed for a century and literally has “grown” into it.
The sweat band shows mush wear, especially around the visor and brim, but is still largely intact. The red liner is in very nice shape, still sound and firmly attached. It shows many stamps (one of them appears to be a makers mark) that are mostly illegible but can be deciphered perhaps by the determined collector!
The hat came from an old collection of WW1 headgear.
This German Postal Service visor hat is VERY RARE.
