    Description

An incredible Don Loper Couture coat and dress suit from the early 1960s!!
This piece comes from Don Loper's Beverly Hills Salon which he opened in 1951 on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.  The set consists of a sheath dress and a "swing" "tent" style coat in matching fabric, just gorgeous! Very rich, very chic!  The material has silver metallic threads woven throughout the sparkling grey silk brocade fabric done in a repeating striped pattern.  The coat is double breasted and can be buttoned all the way to the neck or left open to reveal a bit of the dress underneath.  It has a large Peter Pan collar which can be turned up or down.  The sleeves are long and slim. The sweep of the coat is well over 120".  The dress is sheath style with very short 2" inset cap sleeves.  It also has a very long zipper and a black silk lining.  The coat has a black satin lining.  This outfit probably sold at Loper's salon in the 60s for around 00.00.  His couture line commanded big money at the time.  It is a wonderful example of his high end work.  He was a prolific designer and did lots of "off the rack" clothing.  His couture pieces are difficult to find, and this set is a rare example, and it is also in excellent vintage condition.
There is only one tiny flaw.  A button is missing from the front.  However, one can be harvested from under the neckline.  There are no holes or rips or tears or stains.  No pit stains and no fading or rot.  This outfit was stored very well for decades and probably worn once most likely by someone who was a wealthy client or in the film industry.  Loper designed for Lucille Ball on the "I Love Lucy" show.  He had many Hollywood celebrity clients throughout his career.
