    Vintage Japan Toyo Kutani Satsuma Hand Painted Tulip Crocus Gold 9.5" Vase

    Beautiful hand-painted late 1960's - early 1970's era vase imported by Toyo from Japan. This was part of a series of at least two pieces - this 9 1/2 inch tall vase and a smaller, matching covered ginger jar with the same floral design. I believe there may also have been a blue variation with a different flower pattern. This, by far, is the more striking of the two designs.
    My research found examples of both the vase and ginger jar which showed up every so often. All showed the "aged" look with "crazing" through the use of a crackle glaze beneath the painting. A few showed included a Toyo - Kutani - Satsuma label attached to the base. All were signed the same on the base, which is how I identified this vase; by piecing the various bits of data across the web, together.
    Width at the widest point is about 6 inches.
    It is a striking vase and a lovely example of the artwork that went into the production of these pieces during the mid-20th century.
