Description
World War 1 AEFAMERICAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCES
named and identified summer weight cotton jacket with a beautiful bullion patch for PFC Carlo Vannucci. Carlo’s served in the Paris District as a medical specialist. This patch was used in the AEF for the Paris District, which while the war raged was a restricted zone limited to authorized US personnel which included medical, MP, staff, and other related units and formations. I have confirmed his WWI service was indeed in the Paris District.
In ad
dition to the bullion patch the jacket also includes his original ID tags. It has two bullion overseas chevrons, a discharge chevron, and a medical specialist patch. The collar discs are US and medical and both show distinct signs of having been on this jacket for decades. There are also three service ribbons on the jacket.
The jacket has some aging throughout but no mothing. I believe this was likely Vannucci’s original jacket he wore in Paris. Nearly every identified Paris District jacket I have seen has been summer weight cotton and not the more frequently seen wool. Heavy Staining. An original patched AEF cotton jacket is desirable in its own right. Being identified and named is even better. This example would make a fantastic addition to either an established collection focused on named uniforms or someone just getting started with collecting uniforms.
